“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” John 14:1-4
Dear Jesus, I have always been a homebody and whenever we change homes it’s always a little unsettling. Likewise, when I had to leave my parents’ home or my children left our home, it was lonely for me. A painful reality we all live with is that none of us has an enduring home anywhere on earth. In vain we do our best to make a place our home, but we all know it won’t last forever. That’s a big reason this passage gives me so much peace and hope. You made me to want a home and you are making me that permanent home in heaven. I look forward to that home where I will be together with you and the Father along with my parents, my children and everyone else who clings to you in faith. Thank you for giving me this beautiful thought to dwell on while I try to live in this temporary life in temporary places. Amen.
Home is where God’s heart is. Make it where your heart leans and you will feel its glow.
