By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death. - Hebrews 11:17-19

Dear Lord, Abraham learned through the long saga of waiting for a child to trust your promises against all reason.  Then you asked him to sacrifice his son for you.  He stared at the unreasonableness of that request and still believed in your promise to keep Isaac on earth. He reasoned that you would raise him from the dead.  He was wrong about that but he was right about trusting your promises.  Help me to be "wrong and right" too.  What I mean is that I am asking you to give me that faith that believes your word over all reason and that tolerates being left to contemplate just how you will fulfill each promise in my life.  There's so much I don't know.  But what I do know is that you will keep your promise to graciously bring me to a blessed end.  Today, I will live by faith in you no matter how unpredictable the journey. AMEN
