Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. - Matthew 6:1-4
Dear Heavenly Father, forgive me for patting myself on the back so often when you move me to do something generous for someone else. And forgive me for telling my family what I have done in order to remind them that I am so good to them. I beg you to free me from the need for affirmation and recognition from any human being. Help me to do ten times more good things for others but to do them in secret before you so that my life is a reflection of your constant unnoticeable love that holds us up every day behind the scenes. I want to be like you, loving freely without needing recognition. AMEN
Godly generosity has amnesia about what it has done.
