“From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land.”  Matthew 27:45

Dear Jesus, What an ominous display of your Father’s power over the rogue crowd who thought they had you!  What a telling revelation of his displeasure with the sin you took on yourself!  What an unforgettable message that you went through my hell in my place!  What light the darkness reveals!  How could I think about the three hours of darkness in the middle of the day around your cross without letting it change my inner contemplations?  You were forsaken by people and God because you remembered me and my great need for rescue.  I did this to myself and yet you did that to yourself to extricate me from the despair of hell.  I will live thankfully in the shadow of your cross that burst forth with light at the end of those three hours.  Amen.

The Son of Man and Son of God was rejected by both so I would be accepted.  This will fill my day with contemplation
