Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.  Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.  Rather, in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”  Philippians 2:1-4

Dear Jesus, I hear how softly you, “Shhh” my complaints by reminding me that everything I have from you is the big “Why” for every way I’m called to serve joyfully.  It’s so easy to think that my joy should come from my circumstance.  I’m tempted to be joyful serving only when it is received with praise and gratitude, only when I see the results of the effort, only when I like what I get to do.  But you lead me to a joy that comes from knowing that I am letting you sacrifice and save the planet through me.  I sense when others have this same inner joy and it draws me to them as closest friends.  Give me this joy, dear Jesus.  I want the joy of serving from a heart full of selflessness and tenderness.  Amen.

Selflessness leaves one full and not empty.
