“So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, ‘It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.” Acts 6:2-4
Lord Jesus, You have grafted me into your body and given me good and important work to do within my callings. You have done the same for every other member of your holy, Christian church. It’s a marvelous thing! It’s a beautiful and a perfect thing! It’s true that I easily get distracted from my main callings and the work within those callings by a great many things. I chase the good over the best. I often even choose the bad over the good. I am not always busy with the things you have called me to do and get caught up with many other things. Today, help me to focus on the work you have given me to do and to do it with all the energy that you provide. Strengthen me for this work. And help me to support and set others free in their work. You have done a marvelous thing in your body, dear Jesus. Put us all to work in your kingdom today for your glory and the salvation of many souls. Amen.
You are a vital and important member of the body of Christ. Each one of us has different gifts and different vocations according to the grace that our Savior has given us. It’s good for us to focus on the work God has given us to do and to set others free to do the work God has given them to do.
