“The end of all things is near; therefore, be alert and sober-minded for prayer.” 1 Peter 4:7
Dear Father in Heaven, Prayer is such a gift. Yet, I neglect it so often. I substitute a busy calendar for time in prayer. I substitute action for prayer. I fill in a completed item on my “to-do” list with time calling on you for strength. I neglect prayer thinking that my work is what is needed most. I forget how powerful and important prayer is. More than that, Lord God, I forget how powerful you are to act and to work in my life and work. Lord, in these last days, turn my attention to you. Turn me to you in prayer as this day begins. As this day begins, Lord God, I commit to you all my cares, all my concerns, all the things that will challenge me today. Give me your Spirit today that I might make wise decisions and work hard for you. I have a plan for this day, Lord. Bless the work of my hands today. Bless the plans that I’ve made for you. And Lord, turn me to you again as this day turns to lunch time. Help me to trust your guiding of my day. If all has gone according to schedule, lead me to praise you for your blessing. If things have changed, lead me to trust your working and to praise you for your involvement and directing of my life. And, Lord, when this day comes to a close lead me to give thanks to you for this day of grace drawing to a close. Whatever I was able to accomplish, Lord, I was able to do it because of your help and your strength alone. Whatever still hangs over my head is truly in your hands. Lead me, Lord, to place all my cares and concerns into your hands all day long and especially as the day draws to a close and grant me a quiet night and peace at the last. Lord God, turn me to you all day long. Amen.
