More and More

1 Thessalonians 4-5, Job 34-37

1 Thessalonians 4:1 – Finally, then, brothers, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, just as you are doing, that you do so more and more.

Lord God, these words from Paul are a call to me to keep on growing, to keep on working on my following of Jesus, to keep on listening, to keep on studying, to keep on wrestling, to keep on meditating, to keep on – and more and more all the time. It’s easy to get tired and stagnant in my life as a follower of Jesus.  It’s easy to get content and complacent in my life as a cross-bearer.  It’s easy to be plateau and be okay with that. Forgive me for my sinful complacency and work in me a healthy discontent with where I am in my walk of faith. Keep me from being okay with what seem to be little, bothersome sins.  Keep me from being okay with “good enough” or “the ole college try.”  Work in me a healthy discontent and spur me on by your Word and by your Spirit to learn how to walk and please God more and more.  And then, don’t just teach me what to do, but spur me on by your Gospel to do it, to actually live it out, more and more.  Amen.
