“Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.” 1 Peter 1:10-12
Dear Jesus, By grace you chose me to learn what you had your prophets write down for centuries about your life and sacrifice for mine. By grace you had apostles tell their stories about how you lived out the prophecies right in front of you. By grace you had family and Sunday school teachers faithfully teach me the grand story of the Bible. By grace you had mentors available to talk me through my doubts and guide me to your promises. By grace you sent your Holy Spirit who used your word from the prophets, apostles and my mentors to give me faith in your salvation for me. Here in the first chapter of Peter’s he leads us in a word of praise (doxology) over the grace you have showered on us through all these people. I am “wowed” by your grace. I am privileged not because of race but because of grace. Help me to live this grateful and graceful mindset all day today. Amen.
Live in gratitude for grace today or destine yourself to be a confused, ignorant, curmudgeon.
